November 14, 2011 – The service month started with the opening exhibit made up of four giant lanterns showcasing the service activities of Mu. The event was hosted by sis Jen Chavez (µΣΦ ’15) and brod Alf Pacheco (MΣΦ ’15).
For the opening remarks, Brod Orlino Talens (MΣΦ ’69) provided personal insights on providing medical care both as a health care professional and as an administrative head. After which, he was joined by sis Cynthia Cuayo-Juico (µΣΦ ’76) in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially welcome the month.

What better way to celebrate decades of passionate service than to continue on conceptualizing and making happen new service activities with the same drive and passion. Aside from those that are a staple during rest of the year, new events such as iMUlat and Sayuntis were also presented by Service Committee Chairperson Marianne Naria (µΣΦ ’14) and brod Gab de Leon (MΣΦ ’15). Sis Marianne and Bearer of the Staff Marvin Masalunga (MΣΦ ’14) then led the rest of brods and sisses in attendance in honouring those that have been exceptionally generous in giving their time and effort during service activities. Sisses that received plaques of recognition were Lilibeth Genuino (µΣΦ ’87), Cynthia Cuayo-Juico (µΣΦ ’76), Nina Berba (µΣΦ ’76), Amy Cagayan (µΣΦ ’06), Shelly Castillo (µΣΦ ’10), Gladz Facun (µΣΦ ’11), Marble Co (µΣΦ ’11), Faye Cagayan (µΣΦ ’93), Bootsie David-Ruaro (µΣΦ ’76), Trina Trio-Ranche (µΣΦ ’02), Connie Sison (µΣΦ ’96), Weng Sudario (µΣΦ ’07), Trish Villanueva (µΣΦ ’11), Joie Cañal (µΣΦ ’95), Rani Cadiz-San Pedro (µΣΦ ’10), Bella Siasoco (µΣΦ ’79), Lorna Abad (µΣΦ ’80), Apol Taladtad (µΣΦ ’11), Ceendz Sotalbo (µΣΦ ’09), Mitos Cating-Cabral (µΣΦ ’01), Ma-Am Tumulak (µΣΦ ’07), Kat Ty (µΣΦ ’07), Tere Aspi (µΣΦ ’11), and Cybelle Sotalbo (µΣΦ ’11). These sisses serve as examples on how we can serve all for the glory!

Finally, sis Cynthia provided a short message on how we should harness our talents in better be of service to communities. As Mu, she says she is confident that the brods and sisses have an abundance of talents to use it for purposes far greater than themselves. It was indeed one eventful afternoon when brods and sisses from different generations get together for one purpose and one calling: service.
Last November 2011, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority celebrated more than seven decades of inspiring change, groundbreaking innovations and dedication to sustainable community development through service that is Mu. Children and adults, from Munting KaCIyahan to Mu Caravan, rain or shine, from Mu Relief Operations to Health Missions, print and big screen, from Gawad Panitikang Pangkalusugan to Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival, as well as outside and within the halls of the hospital, from Parol Para sa Sanggol to Mu Amputee Climb, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority have been tried and tested to dedicate their efforts into the realization of the desire to generate significant positive social impact.
