Service Beyond Limits

by Emma Magbitang '15

October 8, 2011, Hagonoy, Bulacan – They say water beats fire anytime. But once again, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority proves to be

unfazed by limits as we witness a case of triumph of their unwavering flame of service against Typhoon Quiel’s heavy downpour. With Mu brods and sisses as soldiers, stethoscopes as firearms, and medicine and relief goods as ammunitions, our troop went to fight the war against respiratory complaints, fungal infections, leptospirosis, and malnutrition at Brgy. Santo Rosario, Hagonoy, Bulacan, which were one of the areas devastated by the typhoon.

Sisses get into army trucks to reach the residents of the flooded barangay of Sto. Rosario in Hagonoy, Bulacan. In this photo, sis Reg Naval (µΣΦ ’15) is assisted by brod PM Hernandez (ΜΣΦ ’09) as she steps on the ladder.

In partnership with the Munting Pastol Foundation and the Provincial Government of Bulacan, Sisses Marianne Naria (µΣΦ ’14), Zie Verzosa (µΣΦ ’14), Laya Zamora (µΣΦ ’14), Frances dela Cruz (µΣΦ ’15), Nina dela Cruz (µΣΦ ’15), Emma Magbitang (µΣΦ ’15), Sheryll Manalili (µΣΦ ’15), Reg Naval (µΣΦ ’15), Jaimee Palanca (µΣΦ ’15), Jeazelle Redondo (µΣΦ ’15), April Sales (µΣΦ ’15) and Brods PM Hernandez (ΜΣΦ ’09), Kalvin Adala (ΜΣΦ ’12), Marvin Masalunga (ΜΣΦ ’14), Aqui Quicho (ΜΣΦ ’14), Picoy Cruz (ΜΣΦ ’15), Gab de Leon (ΜΣΦ ’15), Rocky Jacinto (ΜΣΦ ’15), and Nonoy Pahila (ΜΣΦ ’15) provided healthcare to almost 200 patients whose complaints were mostly illnesses unattended due to the disasters brought about by the previous back-to-back typhoons. Aside from medical aid, purified drinking water were also distributed to the residents due to the scarcity of potable water in the area.

Sisses in attendance during the relief operation in Hagonoy were (last row, L-R), Jeazelle Redondo (µΣΦ ’15), Reg Naval (µΣΦ ’15), Marianne Naria (µΣΦ ’14), Jaimee Palanca (µΣΦ ’15), (front row, L-R), Frances dela Cruz (µΣΦ ’15), Emma Magbitang (µΣΦ ’15), April Sales (µΣΦ ’15), Sheryll Manalili (µΣΦ ’15), Laya Zamora (µΣΦ ’14), Nina dela Cruz (µΣΦ ’15), and (seated) Zie Verzosa (µΣΦ ’14).

Brods and sisses attended to almost 200 patients last October 8, 2011 at Hagonoy, Bulacan.

This relief operation is part of the Mu Sigma Phi’s commitment to impart immediate health and relief assistance to far-off communities, whether it is reached only by foot, or this time, by a heavy-duty army truck with wheels drenched in flood, passengers drenched with rain, and hearts drenched with self-denying service.
