Mu Rocks Freshmen Class 2015

by Clare Toledo '14

MU Rock!

Med life is not all about spending sleepless nights with hardcore medical books. This is the lesson Mu taught the newest members of the UP College of Medicine on June 23 as the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority sponsored a  “rockeoke”-themed party at the Malate District.

The party was attended by freshmen, who were fresh from their first exam this school year, but gamely tried out the food, drinks, and unique games prepared for them by the brods and sisses of Batch 2014. Brods and sisses from various batches also came to the party, taking the opportunity to detox, and of course show the freshies just how hard Mu can rock.

What rendered the night quite unforgettable was the vibrant music that persisted through the night and was literally shared by everyone in the event. How? For more than 5 hours, the college’s best, Mu Band, played hip songs that range from the newest chart-topping hits to nostalgic songs from more than a decade ago. The twist is… anyone can be the lead singer! It takes courage and lots of encourage to take on that stage, but almost everyone, brod, sis, or freshman, had the chance to do their thing and wow the crowd.

There was not one dull moment during the event as the freshmen chatted with some of their classmates for the first time, trooped to the much sought-after Pic-in-a-Box photo booth to pose before the camera, and waited eagerly for their names to be called on the raffle draws. As has been tradition, medical books, stethoscopes, and other med school must-haves were awarded to lucky winners in both the raffle draws and games.

Indeed, sleepless nights shouldn’t all be spent with thick books and lecture transcriptions. Some of them should be spent with friends, having fun and feeling full-blast how med life can rock!
