For 2009, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity is UP Manila’s Most Outstanding Student Organization (MOSO) – the eleventh time the Fraternity has ever received such award and the fourth consecutive occasion since 2006. This triumph is joined by the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority’s astounding finish as one of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) for 2009. The UP Manila-wide distinction was conferred last October 28, 2009 at the PGH-UPMASA Science Hall during UPM’s 32nd celebration as an Autonomous and as a Health Sciences Campus, with the theme “UP Manila: Sustaining Commitment to Health for National Development”. MOSO is accorded to the exemplary student organization that has a track record of achieving its objectives and whose programs and activities are significant contributions to the University and the community. Because of its winning streak in the years 1991-1995, the Fraternity was the first organization to be elevated to the MOSO Hall of Fame. The Fraternity has since won in the years 2003-2004 and 2006-2008. The achievement as MOSO 2009 comes in celebration of Mu Sigma Phi’s 75 years of glory. FY 2008-2009, under the leadership of Most Exalted Brother Dr. Ray Joseph Badulis ΜΣΦ 2009, saw to the establishment of the groundbreaking Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival for Health, a nationwide film-making competition that helped bolster the Fraternity to becoming National Winner of TAYO 2008. In the same year, Mu Sigma Phi founded Bayer-nihan Para sa Kalusugan (a community health development project in Lopez, Quezon) and Red October (a blood donation network among socio-civic organizations) and continued MUbility (a support group of amputee patients providing free wheelchairs and prostheses). Congratulations to the Fraternity, with special mention to the Diamond Executive Committee; last year's Fraternity advisers Dr. Copernico Villaruel ΜΣΦ 1974, Dr. Jun Carnate ΜΣΦ 1994, Dr. Ruter Maralit ΜΣΦ 2005, and Dr. Gerry Briones ΜΣΦ 2005; QEFF chair Bryan Lim ΜΣΦ 2010; and all the brods who worked to make our Diamond Year more meaningful and glorious. Congratulations Sisses for this sterling victory on your 75th year! ALL FOR THE GLORY OF THE MU SIGMA PHI! THERE IS NO GLORY WITHOUT TEARS! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An Ending Note from the Web Administrator: Our deepest apologies to the Office of the UP Manila Chancellor, as the fraternity was not able to receive the MOSO award during UP Manila's Recognition ceremonies last October 28, 2009. It was of an unfortunate circumstance that the Chancellor's invitation for the awarding was received by the the Office of UP College of Medicine Dean Alberto Roxas and was not promptly sent to the fraternity for the sole reason that the Dean has yet to include his congratulatory remarks to the invitation. The fraternity was only informed of the MOSO award through the alumni brods present during the recognition ceremonies. As this article draws to its conclusion, the fraternity has yet to receive Chancellor Arcadio's invitation, which is still in the "safekeeping" of Dean Roxas. -Francis Emmanuel S. Crisostomo |
