Music, because of its abstract nature, detours the ego and intellectual controls and, contacting the lower centers directly, stirs up latent conflicts and emotions which may then be expressed and activated through music; …that music, acting through the ego controls, produces a rapid development of the fantasy world, thus increasing the speed at which therapy may proceed; …if the structural dynamics of the music impinging on the sensorium is similar to the prevalent structure the two will unite and thus fusion will allow music to affect emotions directly. – I.A. Taylor and F. Paperte With these discoveries in consideration, some of the country’s most accomplished classical musicians come together in a concert entitled Music and Healing.
Slated on January 18, 2008 at 7:30 P.M. at the Philamlife Center for the Performing Arts on United Nations Avenue the concert of challenging but enjoyable opera arias, Broadway songs, Josh Groban hits, Filipino art songs and kundimans features soprano Joscephine Gomez, one of the country’s established classical concert artists and the Philippines’ longest cancer survivor with collaborating pianist Carlos Perion and guest performances by tenor Dondi Ong, flutist GJ Herman Gomez, and soprano and fellow cancer survivor Pamela Pascua. The event is presented by Mu Sigma Phi Medical Fraternity and Health Futures Foundation, Inc., to raise funds for the national campaign for health awareness.
