The MU Bremerton-Manila Bash

Brods,

We had a great time celebrating the fraternity in Bremerton. Twenty-one brods representing 4 decades of brotherhood were together. Brod Boy Hilvano ΜΣΦ 1971 from the Philippines was our guest of honor. By the end of the evening, 11 bottles of the finest red wine and 60 bottles of beer were consumed.

The pulutan came in waves starting with the lumpiang shanghai, followed by roasted chicken, tender pork spare ribs, kalderetang kambing, sisig, cheese ensemble, sausages and finally, spicy blue crabs from Maryland flown to Washington by El Fanatico Magnifico - Gil de los Reyes ΜΣΦ 1971.

Special thanks are in order for Rupert Tomada ΜΣΦ 2004 for the red wine, cheese and sausage, Glenn Pacio ΜΣΦ 1994 for the kaldereta and sisig.

The wine and beer drinking slowed down only twice over a span of 8 hours. The drinking paused while waiting for the spare ribs. The designated carver was Kenty Sian '90, and we forgot he was a plastic surgeon.

By 10 PM, after 7 hours of drinking, our last Brod showed up, Buddy Ramirez ΜΣΦ 1985. There was a moment of silence when we remembered he was a liver transplant surgeon. So what, tuloy pa rin ang inuman. Gene Amparo ΜΣΦ 1972-B kept the brods entertained with his anecdotes and wit.

Then, the most important part of the night took place.� We connected with the brods in Manila via Skype and simultaneously toasted with brods Ces Espiritu ΜΣΦ 1982, Eric Domingo ΜΣΦ 1993, the MEB Dan Alpapara ΜΣΦ 2011 and the rest of the younger brods.

Skype technology ushered a new era in connecting with the brods. Just don't ask Cris Ylanan ΜΣΦ 1990 or Emong Yabut ΜΣΦ 1990 because they have no recollection of what they saw or heard on Skype that night thanks to the red wine.
