For the UP Medical Alumni Society (UPMAS) Homecoming Celebrations this 2009, UPMAS Awards of Most Distinguished Alumnus and Outstanding Educator (Philippines) go to brods Dr. Antonio M. Montalban ΜΣΦ 1969 and Dr. Rafael C. Bundoc ΜΣΦ 1986, respectively. A heartfelt congratulations from the Fraternity!
UPMAS Most Distinguished Alumnus is “an award of excellence given to an alumnus/alumna whose qualities of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to quality care exemplify the high standards of conduct and ethical behavior in patient care embodied in the objectives of the College, envisioned by Hippocrates and epitomized by Galen.”
Brod Tony is an accomplished Orthopedic Surgeon with several Master’s degrees under his belt. He was UP-PGH Medical Director from 1994-1997, during which landmark PGH units such as the Spine Center were inaugurated. He is founding President of the Philippine Pediatric Orthopedic Society, founding Director of Ospital ng Muntinlupa, and founding member of ASEAN Orthopedic Association. He also initiated the Philippine Journal of Orthopedics and the Philippine Journal of Emergency Care. UPMAS Outstanding Educator (Philippines) is awarded to “an alumnus who has devoted himself largely to medical education and excelled in this endeavor in the Philippines.”
Brod Pipo is a renowned Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Spine Surgery. A top-notch clinician, educator, and researcher, he is recipient of the awards Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS), and Metrobank Outstanding Teacher – Higher Education Category, among others. He established the first and only biomechanical laboratory in the Philippines, served on the Board of the Philippine Association for the Reintegration of Disabled in Society, and continues to serve through international NGO Physicians for Peace. |
