Mu Sigma Phi Relief Operations Kick Off

In response to the devastating damages brought about by typhoons Pedring and Quiel all over Luzon, the Mu Sigma Phi Relief Operations resumed in full-swing this month of October.

With a generous influx of donor contributions both locally and abroad, and highly determined student-doctors from the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority, the first leg of the Relief Ops pushed through despite unfriendly weather last October 8, 2011 in Hagonoy, Bulacan.

In partnership with the Munting Pastol Foundation and the Provincial Government of Bulacan, 18 Mu doctors volunteered in a medical and relief mission in the town of Hagonoy, one of several flooded areas in the province only accessible through the government’s army trucks.

Close to 200 townsfolk, most of who were directly exposed to the muddy floodwaters, were provided with timely medical attention and medications for skin and respiratory complaints and infections. Purified drinking water, also a scarcity in the area, was distributed to the citizens of Hagonoy.

The Mu Sigma Phi Relief Operations is the Fraternity’s and Sorority’s primary disaster quick-response arm. Most notably active during the time of Typhoon Ondoy more than two years back, the Relief Ops aim to provide immediate response and relief to highly-affected and far-flung areas and communities not normally reached by the major agencies.
