The Mu Sigma Phi Relief Operations, the Fraternity’s and Sorority’s disaster quick-response arm, provide calamity aid for the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, which were heavily struck by tropical storm Sendong during the weekend of December 17-18, 2011.
The Mu Hut, transformed into a relief operations center In spite of the usual lull accompanying the Christmas holidays, our alumni and undergraduate brods and sisses initiated efforts in gathering and packing all kinds of relief goods such as food, bottled water, medicines, clothes, blankets and toiletries, as well as coordinating with other organizations directly working on the said calamity areas.

Brods Leonard Khu MΣΦ 1993 and Tonton Llagas MΣΦ 2010 took charge in Cagayan de Oro, while Brod Don Isla MΣΦ 2004 worked in Iligan City. Fraternity Bearer of the Staff Marvin Masalunga MΣΦ 14 and Sorority Service Committee Chair Marianne Naria μΣΦ 2014 handled the relief operations here in Manila, having sent two waves of donations as of January 1, 2011.

Tropical storm Sendong, reported to be one of the most devastating storms to hit the Philippines for the past decade, with its death toll surpassing 1,100, displacing more than 6,000 families, and leaving damages amounting to at least 1 billion PHP.

As of this writing, the citizens of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan are still in dire need of relief, especially food, medicines and toiletries. The Mu Sigma Phi Relief Operations are continually accepting and processing cash and kind donations for the victims of cyclone Sendong.
