Ms. Raissa Laurel, the law student who lost both legs in last September's Bar bomb blast, adds a shining milestone to her road to recovery as Mu Sigma Phi's MUbility presented her with an elegant wheelchair last November 8 2010, kicking off Mu Sigma Phi's SERVICE MONTH on a high note of courage and determination.
MORE THAN A WHEELCHAIR: Neophyte Aki Quicho '15, Mark Mauricio
ΜΣΦ 2014, and Neophyte Johnnel Pahila '15 extend Mu Sigma Phi's support to Raissa Laurel.
A resplendent and grateful Ms. Laurel greeted Guardian of the Temple Mark Mauricio ΜΣΦ 2014 and 2015 neophytes Johnnel Pahila and Hernane Quicho as they presented her the customized steel wheelchair. After surgery and intensive care at PGH, Ms. Laurel beams with all the hope and passion of the human spirit as she begins her journey of rehabilitation. A few hours after the donation, Mu Sigma Phi was honoured to receive the following SMS from Ms. Bea Guillermo, Vice-Chancellor of League of Lady Barristers:
"In behalf of League of Lady Barristers, we would like to
extend our warmest gratitude to Mu Sigma Phi for supporting our sis Raissa
Laurel. God bless."
HER JOURNEY CONTINUES: Raissa Laurel beams with Mu Sigma
Phi's wheelchair donation.
This donation was made possible through the noble efforts of Dr. Pipo Bundoc ΜΣΦ 1986, his wife Dr. Penny Bundoc, Tahanang Walang Hagdan, and the UERM Physical Therapy Clinic. More than a month has passed since the unwanted incident. While investigations into the bomb case continue, Ms. Laurel remains optimistic that justice will prevail. As soon as she completes therapy, she plans to continue her law studies and thereafter join the fight for justice. Once she masters the wheelchair and eventually regain her ability to walk, Raissa plans to raise the banner of PWDs and face unique challenges like mountain-climbing, as in the acclaimed MUbility Amputee Climb . MUbility was founded in 2007 with the objectives of sourcing free wheelchairs and prostheses for PWDs and providing a support group to facilitate their successful reintegration as productive members of society. Since its inception, MUbility has donated to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and cerebral palsy patients , conducted an Amputee Climb and Walkathon , and helped develop telehealth amputee screening, among others. MUbility remains steadfast in its mission of uplifting our PWD countrymen. |
