MAKATI, PHILIPPINES - The Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity was recently named one of the country’s Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) by the National Youth Commission under the Office of the President, the Office of Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, Coca-Cola Foundation, and TeaM Energy Foundation, in recognition of the fraternity's widely acclaimed project: The Quisumbing Escandor Film Festival for Health.
The award was presented to the Fraternity on December 16, 2008 at the Renaissance Hotel in Makati. Prior to the awards ceremony, the Fraternity was already listed among 20 finalists, selected from youth organizations all over the country.
The TAYO Award includes a trophy and a PhP 50,000 cash prize. TAYO, in its sixth year, hailed as the country’s leading search for outstanding groups of young Filipinos that are instrumental in the development of the country through simple, worthwhile and notable projects implemented in their communities. In addition to the TAYO award, the Fraternity was also given the TeaM Energy Foundation Award for Sustainable Development, which carries with it a PhP 30,000 cash prize and a desktop computer worth PhP 20,000.
The award was received by presenter (Brother Recorder) Kiev Tanayan ΜΣΦ 2012 with Brother Recorder Kalvin Adala ΜΣΦ 2012, Button Ricarte ΜΣΦ 2012, Bryan Lim ΜΣΦ 2010, Most Illustrious Brother Dan Alpapara ΜΣΦ 2011, Brother Custodian Francis Crisostomo ΜΣΦ 2011, and Immediate-Past Most Exalted Brother Dr. Naegele Mandal ΜΣΦ 2008. Brod Kiev Tanayan was also chosen to deliver the response on behalf of all the recipients of the TAYO award. This victory could not have come at a better time—just one day before the Grand Fraternity Ball and Alumni Homecoming, giving the Fraternity even more reason to celebrate. This marks the first time that a student organization from the University of the Philippines-Manila has won this award, thus cementing the Fraternity’s reputation as the most illustrious and relevant student organization in the University. With the Fraternity also eligible to compete for the Asia-wide search for Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations, Mu Sigma Phi stands poised on the threshold to ever-greater heights of glory. |
