Even the persistent rains couldn’t douse the Mu spirit welcoming the Freshmen of 2014. Amidst a week of downpour, the midday of June 19, 2009 brought clear skies for the newest faces of the College of Medicine to enjoy, unwind, and get acquainted over free food, drinks, and healthy heapings of sorbetes - all in the pleasant shade and comfort of the Mu Hut vicinities.
FIESTA AT THE HUT, the traditional June activity offered by the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity, was well-attended by the freshmen, who trooped out of their morning classes and went the short distance to the now-familiar Mu Hut for their fill of a variety of Filipino dishes and the good company of batchmates and schoolmates. Brods and sisses, from the undergrads to the consultants, took the time to join the busy gathering and make it an even more resplendent welcome for the First Year doctors-to-be. The Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority’s IGNITE: A FRESHMAN WELCOME PARTY, held last June 23, 2009 at the Fluid Bar in Malate, challenged the obstacles of rainfall and flooded streets to great success – offering a spanking opportunity for the ladies to let their hair down and the gents to get their groove on, with the added bonus of a holiday the morning after.
The free, after-dinner festivities kicked off with a breath-taking open-air fire dance, followed by party games which included a beer chugging contest and “14 Shots” - a toast to Class 2014 involving 13 dizzying shots and a flaming drink finale. Game prizes and raffle items included a Littman stethoscope, medical books, Transformers 2 movie tickets, limited edition toy collectibles, and penlights. Food and drinks were served all night, much to the delight of attendees.
Maui Villanueva and Pinggoy Danguilan ΜΣΦ 2013 played eager hosts to the spirited crowd. Freshmen, brods, and sisses were treated to entertaining performances from the award-winning MU Band, and to cap off the wild night of dancing and merry-making, open bar was pronounced.
Mu Sigma Phi would like to thank all those who came and supported the Fiesta and Ignite Welcome Party, with special mention to the dynamic Class of 2014 who certainly showed us that in food and partying “Labing Apat, Walang Katapat!”’See you around!
