Dr. Joel Elises ΜΣΦ 1977, was awarded the Outstanding Pediatrician Award for 2008 by the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) during the 45th PPS annual convention held at the PICC last April 13-16, 2008.

Dr. Joel Elises held the PPS presidency from 2004-2006. The Outstanding Pediatrician award is the highest accolade given by the PPS to a Filipino Pediatrician in recognition of all-around and exceptional competence in the profession; exemplary leadership and accomplishments in various fields; strong family and personal values; and ethical practice.

The same honor was awarded to PGH Director Dr. Carmelo Alfiler ΜΣΦ 1972 in 2005.
