For Mu Sigma Phi Scholarship Week 2011, the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority's Interactive Career Forum entitled "Double Duty: Beyond the Call of the Clinics" was held at the BSLR-East last March 1, 2011, with an impressive panel of distinguished physician speakers from sectors other than health. Brods Dr. Alberto Romualdez ΜΣΦ 1965, Edwin Mercado ΜΣΦ 1987, Anthony Cordero ΜΣΦ 1992 and Manolette Roque ΜΣΦ 1995 shared invaluable insights on their experiences in the fields of governance, hospital administration and business, NGO advocacy work, and medical informatics. Other panelists present were Colonel Reynaldo Ireneo Lipat (Armed Forces of the Philppines Surgeon General), Dr. Vanessa Garner µΣΦ 2008 (resort doctor in El Nido), and Dr. Filomena T. Santiago-San Juan µΣΦ 1978 (former congresswoman of Zamboanga del Sur). The speakers' non-traditional paths beyond medical school struck a chord among the audience, composed of medical students and aspiring health professionals, whose comments and queries livened up the Open Forum that followed. A recurring theme for the discussion was the importance of enjoying what you are doing, no matter where and how you are applying the skills acquired in medical school. "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life," as many of the panellists agreed. The Brods and Sisses were proud testaments to the pillar of Leadership, as they pursued their dreams, interests, and advocacies - having the initiative and drive to turn them into reality. Their willingness to share their own holistic experiences for future medical doctors manifested their devotion to the Scholarship pillar, as well. Congratulations to the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority for a successful career forum this Scholarship Week. Thank you to the Brods for their time and participation. All for the Glory! |
