During its 102nd annual convention, the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), together with United Laboratories, held the 18th Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards last May 21, 2009 at the Edsa Shangri-la Manila, with Dr. Armando C. Crisostomo ΜΣΦ 1981 winning the award for the category of Academe and Research. The Jose P. Rizal Memorial Award is given to oustanding Filipino physicians whose life and work embody the ideals of our national hero: in the conduct of their practice, in the way they live life that is reflective of Rizal’s love for God and country, and in the selfless service to fellowmen, especially the poor and the underprivileged. Winners are chosen for each of the four catergories of the award: Community Leadership, Clinical Practice, Research and Academe, and Government Service. Dr. Crisostomo and the Jose P. Rizal Memorial awardees received trophies sculpted by National Artist Napoleon Abueva. Each awardee is set to receive P150,000.00 worth of medicines from Unilab to be donated to a charitable institution of his choice, along with an academic excursion abroad to a convention of their choice that will help them improve more on their field of expertise.
