Last February 2011, Brod Allen Tria MΣΦ 2010 was recognized as the year's Most Outstanding Resident of the Department of Internal Medicine. This prestigious award is bestowed upon the medical resident who best exemplifies the holistic characteristics that the medical practitioner should possess. It looks both into the capacities of the resident and his contributions to the Department in the past year.

Out of 21 residents for his year level, Brod Allen was selected as one of 4 individuals who consistently excelled in the monthly academic exams. To identify non-academic qualities, candidates interviewed about their values, experiences, plans, and outlook. Peers and senior medical practitioners also gave input and recommendations in order to consider clinical performance and patient relations.

Brod Allen considers service to the patient as his primary goal in his practice of medicine. He shows no hesitation to extend his effort, attention, and even financial resources in order to help his patients. He is often teased to have established an "Allen Tria Foundation" by his peers. It is no secret that he fortuitously gets the most patients both in number and complexity. Despite this load, if you were to walk by the Hut on a weekday evening, you will likely find Brod Allen tirelessly studying.

Brod Allen also has completed several recognized research papers. Off-duty, he takes breaks to spend time with his batchmates, friends, peers, and brods. He is also the official photographer of the department.

For him, just being nominated was reward enough for his efforts, but winning as Most Outstanding Resident was an unexpected, humbling, and tremendously fulfilling experience. Whether senior, peer, or junior, his co-residents approach him simply to tell him that he is indeed the most deserving. Apart from the individual prestige that the award brings, he feels privileged to have brought honor to all the Brods and Sisses in the field of Internal Medicine, and of course, to the Fraternity.

When asked about his "X-factor" that gave him the most leverage for the award, he shrugged and said, "Kung ano yung tinuturo sa frat, inapply ko lang sa trabaho ko sa ospital. Service." He shares that many other MU brods and sisses are known for outstanding competence, compassion, and service.

As a message to the younger brods, he stresses, "Value what the fraternity teaches. It is very special. You can apply it in many aspects of real life and yield amazing results." Through values such as genuine concern for each and every patient, looking out for others, hardwork, and competence, you can win the respect and esteem of everyone you work with.
