Quezon City, Philippines – October 6, Monday, led by Most Exalted Brother RJ Badulis ΜΣΦ 2009 and our Diamond Coffee Table Book creator Dr. Pipo Bundoc ΜΣΦ 1986, the Brods made a courtesy call to our most senior Brod in the Philippines, Dr. Andres “Andy” Angara ΜΣΦ 1937, one of the Founding members of the Mu Sigma Phi.
Dr. Angara graduated from Ateneo De Manila University and pursued the degree of Medicine in the State University. Impressed by the likes of Saturnino-Ador Dioniso and Constantino Manahan, the young Andy Angara heeded the call for a noble dream to form the Mu Sigma Phi. After earning his medical degree, he spent his young career at the Quezon Institute where he became an expert on tuberculosis. As World War II broke out, Dr. Angara was in the country, but was earlier assigned by the Bureau of Health as Health Officer of Tuguegarao, Cagayan—too far to be drawn into the atrocities of War. After the Liberation, Dr. Angara went on to become Baguio City’s Health Officer as he consequently discovered a thriving career in public health. After taking a post-graduate degree in the UP Institute of Public Health (where he met his wife, Dra. Amansia Mangay-Angara μΣΦ 1939, a Sis), he was tapped by the World Health Organization (WHO) and was appointed as Assistant Director for Health Services in the Western Pacific. Dr. Angara served the WHO for more than 20 years. He retired in 1975 and has been blessed by the Almighty with a tranquil retreat at Panay Avenue, Quezon City.
To honor Dr. Angara, Dr. Pipo Bundoc presented him the 75th Anniversary Coffee Table Book. The Most Exalted Brother personally invited him to our Diamond Anniversary Fraternity Ball on December 17, 2008. With much enthusiasm, Dr. Angara immediately confirmed his attendance and is looking forward to meet all those that have carried the pennant of Mu Sigma Phi. throughout its glorious years of existence He sees the December Fraternity Ball as a timely opportunity to see how the Fraternity has flourished since its establishment in 1933. He hails the Fraternity for the service it has provided to the country and to the Filipino people. Dr. Angara has also expressed his delight to see that the bonds of the Brothers of the Mu Sigma Phi have remained strong.
