The number 4 was Armand's lucky number, as he elaborated on this during his acceptance speech. Armand was the fourth boy in a brood of six. He graduated from the College of Medicine in 1981, ranking fourth in the class and again ranking fourth in the medical boards that year. On the 4th of December 2007, Armand became the fourth colon and rectal surgeon to assume the top PCS post. The inducting officer for the ceremony was UP President Emerlinda Roman. Also present were UP-Manila Chancellor Ramon Arcadio and UPCM Dean Alberto Roxas. The Brods also graced the event as Tony Oposa '51, Ed Gatchalian '77 (both former PCS Presidents), PGH Department of Surgery Chair Boy Hilvano '71, PGH Director Mike Alfiler '72, Glen Aquino '86, Rodney Dofitas "87 were there to congatulate their comrade.
